Dang doubles down at three positions, spare defence outprojects the starter

Overall 16 is the latest Dang has ever opened a draft in twelve tries, and he spent it dead on market, the sixth receiver off the board at 238.4 points. The services do not agree on what they are looking at, though: CBS says 215.6 points, RotoBaller says 247.2, and the difference is entirely the quarterback situation in Minnesota.

Tee Higgins, 195.2 points, was sitting right there and did not come off the board until 56, and Davante Adams, 187.9 points, lasted until 55. Dang had picks 48 and 49 back to back and could have had either one plus Skattebo; instead his WR2 is McConkey at 181.2 points, ninth of sixteen at the spot.

The 22nd back taken in a room that had him 18th, and the single best thing on this roster relative to the field: 208.6 points from a flex spot where the league leader is 227.6.

Nobody knows what Fannin is. CBS has him at 183.3 points, ESPN at 147.0, and the 158.0 consensus makes him this league's TE6, sixth of sixteen starters against a best of 201.0. George Kittle and his 155.0 points went three picks later at 83, so the tight end was going to get solved either way.

Lawrence at 311.7 points is the eighth-best starting quarterback in a sixteen-team league where the best is 370.0. That best is Josh Allen, who was on the board when Dang picked at 17 and stayed there until 28.

A committee back listed Questionable on draft day, for 143.1 points, with Jordan Addison (148.7 points, gone at 114) and Quentin Johnston (152.8 points, gone at 117) both still available inside the next five picks.

Three receiver spots later than the market wanted, which is a real discount, but the 138.0 points are a bet that Green Bay finally feeds somebody after four years of feeding nobody.

A ninth-round backup quarterback who cannot start, because Lawrence already does. That parks 277.5 points on the bench behind a man Dang drafted sixty-three picks earlier, and leaves McConkey as the WR2 for good.

With Hampton and McConkey already aboard, this is the third and fourth piece of Los Angeles on one roster. If the Chargers' line stays healthy, Dang wins the league; if it does not, he loses it in three places at once.

A second defence in the thirteenth round, and the backup projects 113.1 points against the 108.8 of the Chargers unit he intends to start. Pat Freiermuth (104.0 points, gone at 210) and Jauan Jennings (106.0 points, gone at 219) were both available, which matters on a team whose starting lineup lands at 1593.6 points, seventh of sixteen. Two quarterbacks, two tight ends and two defences in fourteen rounds is four picks spent on positions that were already handled.

At 113.5 points he is the highest projection left on ESPN's board, ahead of Jauan Jennings at 106.0, even though ESPN's own write-up says he will not sniff a flex spot. Worth noting on the way out: all fourteen picks here were made by a person, which is Dang's first full draft without the robot since 2022, after the machine handled seven of them in 2023.
